Cairo, here we come!

The family at one of the temples of Luxor

On our way to Cairo we had to travel in convoy. We tried to avoid it, but the police was not to be bribed, we were sent back and we just had to wait 1 hour before we could leave Luxor, maleesh. We were in front of all the cars, which was nice although we really had to fight to keep that spot. Unbelievable that cars, although they cannot overtake the police car, still try to overtake each other. Anyway, half way to the Red sea we could leave the convoy and while all the other cars had a break we carried on to Hurghada. We found a nice place, had a swim in the crystal clear waters and we decided that the next day, after some more swimming we would continue to Cairo.
To road to Cairo, along the Red sea and through the desert was dull but once we were back along the Nile it became very busy and even dangerous. Donkeys, cars on the wrong side of the road, reversing, whatever, we have seen it all. And we saw the first pyramids, the step pyramid and some that were really in decay.

We were lucky it was Friday so the roads in Cairo were not blocked and in a family joined effort we reached our Hotel Windsor, the old English Officers club. It was a wonderful place to stay and also very relaxed. Once you were outside the door you would blend in with the locals who were using the streets as their terrace. So we had some lovely mint tea, coffee and fresh juices.
